The sightseeing runs: what travellers said

The driver, the back routes, and how much ground two hours really covers.

The Beatles routes: what travellers said

Abbey Road, the addresses in between, and whether a driving tour is the right shape for it.

The film-location routes: what travellers said

Clips before each stop, and what a cab solves that a walking route does not.

The Christmas lights runs: what travellers said

Glass roofs, early-evening starts and the streets people name afterwards.

The days out of London: what travellers said

Windsor and the Cotswolds, and what a nine-hour cab actually feels like.

What comes up again and again

The driver is the tour. The same names recur across years of reviews — Paul, Michael, Gary, Andy, Tim, Rachel, Moses, Gordon — and travellers credit them with the route, the photographs and the decision to swap a stop when the traffic went wrong. Almost nobody writes about the vehicle without writing about the person driving it.

The cab reaches things a walking tour cannot. One reviewer who has lived in London for eight years still found new places; another said they saw more in three hours than a week on foot would have managed. The word that recurs is not comfort, it is coverage.

Photographs matter more than anyone expects. Several drivers carry film clips on a tablet, bring historical photographs to the addresses they belong to, or stop traffic at the Abbey Road crossing. Two reviewers said they had more than a hundred pictures by the end of the day.

Not every day is perfect. A rushed two hours ending fifteen minutes' walk from the hotel, a four-hour tour with a broken microphone and no air conditioning, a Beatles day held up by traffic, and a family who thought they had booked the studio tour: all four are in the pool above, at the rating the traveller gave them. Three of the four still recommended the guide.

Where to go from here

If the reviews have settled the format, the next question is which tour. Which tour to book sorts them by the two things you actually have — hours free and who is travelling — and the planning page covers what the fare buys before you get to the choosing.

Or start from the list itself: the guided black cab tours of London are set out with their prices, their hours and their caps on Black Cab London Tours, and the FAQ page answers what the fare does and does not cover.
